Tech Tip - Scheduling E-Mail Reminders

We have noted the increasing adoption of text reminders to case parties by the courts before.  In this short “tech tip” post we will consider how we can add an automatic reminder via e-mail and even set up an online shared scheduling system?

---

In our CCMS series, we have discussed the concepts of events and tasks.  These concepts were created to manage cases for internal court judge and staff users.  But what about the litigants?  Because they are not part of or users of the internal courts CCMS, we communicate now that we have e-filing with e-mail.

The challenge for the court staff is to remember to send the reminders at the right time.  I have seen a lot of desktop calendars and sticky notes in courts to do this.  Ideally, one can set up the CCMS to generate the e-mails with notice document text (BTW, link and attachments are less effective since they may be spam filtered by an e-mail system).

But if your CCMS does not have that feature, there is an alternative approach built into the Microsoft Outlook and Google e-mail systems to schedule an e-mail to be sent later.  An article posted on “The Verge” website describes how to do it in both systems.  Additionally, an article on Lifewire.com also describes how to do this on Outlook and a C-Net article describes how to do it with Gmail.

Last, for those of you who want to separate have their own personal e-mail reminder system, there is the Boomerang browser extension. This app can also remind you if your e-mail has not been replied to.

Great stuff.  Is anyone using these or similar apps?  If so, please write a comment below.
