Calling Alexa at Glendale Arizona City Court

Amazon Echo Dot

Long-time readers of this blog may remember that one of my general goals as a court technologist has been to enable courts to “answer the phone”.  David Garretson wrote to share an online streaming video demonstrating the Alexa voice app they built for the Glendale Arizona Municipal Court.

He writes in the video post description for the 5-minute video that is posted at https://vimeo.com/312803253

“This video shows a step-by-step demo of the new Glendale City Court voice first app. This app will allow defendants and other Court patrons easy access to pertinent case information like the next court date, next payment amount / due date, and total cash balance. Additionally, it will provide a ton of other important info like the court's address, phone numbers, and hours of operation. This app is coming soon so keep an eye out on the Alexa app store for "The Glendale City Court" app or follow us on social media for the latest news.”

You can contact David Garretson who built the app at https://gtechaz.com/VoiceFirstCourt.aspx

So it seems that the answer to my court goal of "answering the phone" will be partially met by a machine.  Great work!

And there is much more that of course can be done with this interactive technology such as juror information as well as to connect people to the court and legal resources that they need.  I hope to see more of these kinds of applications in the upcoming months.
