CTC 2017 – a Milestone Conference

The conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah from September 12-14, 2017 had many significant events and presentations.  We will start the list in this post with more to come in the very near future.

---

Over 1,000 people attended the conference and more viewed sessions that were streamed over the Internet.  That said, the attendee's thoughts were on their colleagues in Florida, Texas, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico and the rest of the Caribbean who were not able to attend due to Hurricane Harvey and Irma.

Briefly, some highlights were:

The opening keynote session by Mark Lanterman of Computer Forensic Service gave attendees a live tour of “the dark web” where credit cards, passports, and identities are bought and sold.

The Utah State Courts shared their development of the “My Case” portal for litigants and the public to more easily and effectively receive information about the court’s cases.

Many sessions on Online Dispute Resolution Systems from the courts and vendor community.

Margaret Hagan created one of her always interesting story picture from the session by Rob Oyung of the California courts and Casey Kennedy of the Texas courts about what some of the myths around “why courts can’t innovate” are–and then talking through how they are figuring out ways to bring innovation into their courtrooms and organizations.

The mid-note session by Seth Stoughton, a law professor at the University of South Carolina made a fantastic presentation on the benefits but also the issues revolving around body-worn cameras and video evidence.

Several sessions were made on the use and the graphical presentation of court data.

A highlight for many were the sessions on Artificial Intelligence, growing machine intelligence capabilities, and the law and evidence.

A great many of the vendor presented sessions focused on the advances that they have made working in concert with the courts.

Our Court Services Division also wished to share how much everyone at the NCSC enjoyed meeting and working with attendees at the Dr. is In sessions.

And last, it was announced that next CTC is scheduled to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana from September 10-12, 2019

We will have more on CTC in the upcoming weeks.  And we will let you know when materials will be made generally available.
